Road trip in Mexico

When Company hits the road, we want a route filled with sun and gorgeous beaches, with fabulous cocktails on tap every night. That’s why Oonagh Brennan (above left) says the Mayan Riviera in Mexico makes for the ultimate road trip. And the ultimate car? It has to be a VW Beetle. It’s what all the surfers and hippy chicks drive, and qill give you instant cooldos (geddit?).

After flying into Cancun, make your first stop Pueblito Escondido, in Playa del Carmen, a small party resort on the east coast af the Yucatán Peninsula. The bar by the infinity pool is the ideal place for your firs margaritas. So rock star.

Not to be missed is the super-chilled Azulik resort at Tulum, with it’s so cool beach huts. An eco resort, it has no electricity, but the hammocks, hippy atmos and dream location are worth the sacrifice!

One last tip. Before you head back to Cancun, make sure you explore the mystical Pyramids at Chichen Itzá, in the heart of the jungle. They really are breathtakingly beautiful – and just a little bit spooky… Indiana Jones, eat your hart out.

EcoTulum Resort Azulik costs from £125 per room per night (www.azulik.com).
